Experimental/Ornamental Collection
A collection of highly decorative knitting patterns featuring traveling colorwork.
Experimental/Ornamental Collection includes Scandinavian, Cartouche, Prairie Cable, and Concertina in one pdf.
Paired increases and decreases shift columns of stitches to the left and the right, adding curves & movement to stranded motifs. The patterns can be knit flat or in the round, and can be used - individually or in combination - to design your own unique and individual scarves, shawls, throws, afghans, blankets, garments, hats, cushions, borders, bags … or whatever you want.
I’ve used simple color combinations in the samples to illustrate the designs as clearly as possible. You can transform the designs with variegated or heathered yarns and/or more subtle or dramatic colors.
Scandinavian
A chevron motif, created by increasing and decreasing, weaves its way between stylized flower motifs inspired by Scandinavian textiles. The resulting fabric has a slightly embossed brocade-like surface.
There is also a variation of the pattern with a similar structure. Techniques include stranded knitting, increasing and decreasing. The pdf includes three charts and images of different colorways.
Scandinavian is also available here as a standalone pattern.
Cartouche
Single stitch columns meander left and right, creating cartouches around traditional stranded motifs. Techniques include stranded knitting, increasing and decreasing. The pdf includes one chart and images of colorway variations.
Prairie Cable
Columns of stranded stripes combined with cables. Techniques include stranded knitting and cabling. The pdf includes one chart, special instructions about tension, and images of colorway variations.
Concertina
This design features a gently curved folded ribbon motif, inspired by the edge of an antique porcelain plate. This pattern has increases and decreases on wrong side rows as well as on right side rows.
The pdf includes three chart variations: an all-over pattern and two border versions.
Please read the Terms and Conditions applicable to knit/lab pattern purchases before purchasing this pattern. The T&C can be viewed here.
