Every Way Wrap
Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Fall 2009: “Okmin Park’s ingenious Every Way Wrap turns a simple rectangle, an intricate reversible cable, and two well-placed buttons into a wrap, a shrug, a vest, and a shawl collared cardigan. Through the use of cleverly planned and crossed background stitches between deeply textured cable strands, the texture of one side of the fabric perfectly mirrors the texture of the other.”
Finished Size: 14½ (16½, 21, 26)“ wide and 59” long, to fit bust sizes 32–37 (39–41, 43–45, 47–50)”. Shawl shown measures 14½“ wide.
Yarn: Zaol Canon (100% merino; 95 yd 87 m/50 g): #522 pumpkin, 8 (9, 11, 13) skeins.
Needles: Size 9 (5.5 mm): 24” or 32” circular (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Cable needle (cn); markers (m); tapestry needle; two 1” buttons.
Additional Gauge: 36 (36, 52, 52) sts of Cable Panel chart measure about 5½ (5½, 8, 8)“ wide.
Notes:
- This garment is designed to be worn buttoned loosely around the shoulders. Different widths are offered to provide different amounts of coverage for a range of bust sizes, but the widths are only suggestions. Feel free to work the width of your choice.
- The instructions will produce a shawl 59” long. To customize the length, work more or fewer 16-row repeats of the cable chart; every 16 rows added or removed will lengthen or shorten the shawl by about 3”. To make adjustments less then 3”, add or omit rows in the ribbed sections, making sure to work the same number of ribbing rows at each end; every 6 rows total added or omitted will lengthen or shorten the shawl by about 1”. If making a longer shawl, plan on purchasing extra yarn.
