This design was inspired by the lovely triangular scarves that were made in Haapsalu,Estonia in the 1930’s. This style of scarf was usually small, worn around the neck or over the head.
After the end of WWII and during Soviet occupation, patterns for this style of scarf were reproduced in the western Estonian language magazine Triinu and the style was continued.
I created this scarf using a traditional Estonian pattern for the center and surrounded it with an original ‘knot’ design. The outer edge is knitted separately and sewn on, in the traditional
manner. ‘Õhtu Kallas’ means Evening Shore in Estonian and is the name of one of the charming streets in Haapsalu.

The finished size is 64” (164cm) across the top and 40” (100cm) from top to point.

Needles requires are a #4 (3.5mm) 32” circular needle, a #5 (3.75mm) single point needle for the cast on and a #4 (3.5) 10” single point needle (optional) along with 3 stitch markers.

It took two skeins of Elemental Affects Rustic Lace for this project. There was a little remaining of the second skein.
