Hi Folks!

Thanks for checking out the Evanescent Shawl! This large, two-color, almost-rectangular shawl is designed to look like the fleeting moment a fallen maple leaf lands on still water, causing ripples to emanate out from it. Worked separately, the shawl is a relaxing knit composed primarily of stockinette stitch, and it is worked while holding two strands of yarn, so it knits up fairly quickly. The maple leaf is knit in sections and seamed together. The yarn ends are then used to graft the leaf onto the center of the shawl. Although at times it is not a TV-knitting experience, the final product makes a great statement while being wonderfully functional and warm.

Here’s a quick summary of the pattern based on the original sample:

Dimensions:
-- 74 in (188 cm) in length
-- 12.5 in (32 cm) tall

Yarn Requirements:
-- Color A (main color): 1200 meters of fingering-weight yarn
-- Color B: 400 meters of fingering-weight yarn
-- The sample was knit with Shirley Brian Mercury Yak Sock (each 100 grams, 400 m / 437 yds), 3 skeins of It’s a Nahhvy Suit George and 1 skein of Team Logan

Needles:
-- Size A (for the shawl): Two 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles (24” recommended)
-- Size B (for the leaf): 3.25 mm (US 3) circular or straight needles

Other Materials:
-- Removeable stitch markers (at least 6)
-- Tapestry needle to seam sections together and weave in ends
-- Cable needle (optional)

Gauge:
-- After washing and lightly blocking, 24 sts by 30 rows = 4 in x 4 in / 10 cm x 10 cm in stockinette stitch using Size A needles while holding 2 strands of fingering-weight yarn together.
