This lovely summery cowl is the first mind of winter crochet pattern. Worked in the round using only slipped stitch, chain, single crochet and double crochet, it is a relatively straightforward piece that looks elegant and intricate. Gauge is taken after blocking.
23 sts equal 4” / 1 0 cm in Picot Mesh pattern.
24 sts equal 4” / 1 0 cm in Offset Filet pattern.
24 sts equal 4” / 1 0 cm in Zig Zag pattern.

Gauge is not crucial for this project, but it is necessary to check gauge if you do not have significant excess yarn to compensate for any gauge variances. It is also useful to swatch in all three patterns to familiarize yourself with them. The pattern is suitable for a range of yarn weights, but the yardage given is calculated using fingering weight yarn. Finished size and required yardage will vary with gauge and yarn weight.

construction
The cowl is worked in the round. It begins with the Picot Mesh pattern. The work is then flipped upside down and the Offset Filet pattern is worked into the foundation chain of the Picot Mesh pattern. The Zig Zag pattern is worked in the same direction as the Offset Filet. The last round of Offset Filet forms the foundation chain for the Zig Zag pattern.
