Estonian heirloom (sampler scarf)
Immerse yourself in history and explore the ancient art of knitting a sampler. Estonian ladies did not write or chart their patterns for over 200 years. They simply made samplers, which they shared with each other. When one lady-knitter would borrow a sampler from a neighbor, because she liked one of her patterns, she had to knit on one of her patterns onto the neighbor’s and only then she could return the sampler. The samplers grew as the beautiful tradition had flourished.
You may find more interesting information on Estonian lace knitting here, and more particulars on what inspired me to choose each of the design elements for this sampler here on my blog.
