Esprit d'automne
Esprit d’automne (Spirit of autumn) cowl is a perfect autumn accessory. Simple and easy to remember pattern creates lots of texture. Cowl is knit flat (back and forth in rows), both edges are then joined together.
Cowl is available in two sizes.
Both chart and written instructions provided.

knit, purl, yarn over, k2tog, provisional cast-on (explained), 3-needle bind off (explained) or knit and purle grafting (explained)
Finished measurements
Shorter cowl: Approx. 12”/30 cm wide and 21.5”/54.5 cm in circumference after blocking.
Longer cowl: Approximately 12”/30 cm wide and 43”/109 cm in circumference after blocking.
Yarn
Shorter cowl: 240 yds/260 m of Worsted weight yarn.
Longer cowl: 480 yds/525 m of Worsted weight yarn.
Longer cowl is shown in Cascade yarns Venezia Worsted (70% merino wool, 30% silk, 219 yds/239 m in 100g): # 156 Italian Plum.
Needles
Size 7 (4.5mm) needles.
Notions
4 m of waste yarn in contrast color and Worsted weight for provisional cast-on, extra needle for 3-neele bind-off, tapestry needle.
Gauge
• 20 sts and 24 rows in 4”/10 cm in Stockinette stitch;
• 19-20 sts and 24 rows in 4”/10 cm in Lace stitch;
• Gauge is not critical for this project. Keep in mind that if gauge is different, amount of yarn required and finished measurements of the cowl will be different.
