Escape
The Escape shawl is a mindful and soothing project, full of calming repetitive stitches. The stitch pattern is so easy to memorize that you can use this pattern as a side project, grabbing it any moment you need true crochet escape without needing to remember where you stopped or looking up how to proceed.
The Escape shawl is perfect for you if you:
- Seek a completely mindless project to work on.
- Want a side project to take a break from complex projects that require your full attention (this one doesn’t!).
- Would like to create a beautiful and easily adjustable wrap (you can make it as large as you desire).
- Finally want to use those gorgeous variegated skeins sitting in your stash.
The design works with any color options. Simply choose the one that makes your heart sing!
- Solids and semi-solids;
- Variegated colors;
- Long color repeat colorways;
- Multiple color options at once.
You can use at least two colors: one for the background (single crochet ribbing rows) and another one (or many) for the two circle rows. Alternatively, you can use one color for every two rows, then switch.
MATERIALS
- Yarn: Malabrigo Sock; light fingering / 3 ply; 440 yd (402 m) per 100 g skein; 100% merino wool
- Hook: U.S. E (3.5 mm)
- Locking stitch marker
- Yarn needle to weave in ends
YARDAGE
(2) 3 skeins in shade 723 Indonesia
GAUGE
Gauge is not crucial for this pattern.
The blocked and unblocked gauge will vary drastically and the larger your shawl (swatch), the bigger the difference after blocking. It is suggested to simply use the hook size you are comfortable with when working sc ribbing with your chosen yarn.
FINISHED SIZES
Small (Large)
- 46½ (59¾)” / 118 (152) cm wingspan
- 20¾ (28)” / 53 (71) cm at deepest point
The Escape shawl is adjustable and you can make this shawl smaller or larger by working fewer or more row repeats of the stitch pattern. Bear in mind that in this case, your yardage requirements and finished dimensions will change.
