Equinox Shawl
Reaching for light against the ever growing darkness, the winter Equinox marks the darkest day of the year.
On the flip side, this also marks the time when every day then becomes a little longer, and every night a little shorter.
This Equinox Shawl came out of a desire to create a shawl that was simple to knit, with lots of relaxing garter stitch. The warmth of the resulting shawl is balanced by the lightness of the fabric, as we move through the dark and into the light.
Materials:
Noro Tsubame 200g/600m (50% Silk, 25% Wool, 25% Polyamide) - 1 ball (colour 10 used in sample).
Drops Kid Silk 25g/210m (75% Kid Mohair, 25% Silk) - 1 ball (colour 25 used in sample).
The shawl is knit from the top down, beginning with a garter tab. The two yarns are alternated, not knit together. The resulting fabric alternates between more dense and more gauzy sections. The balance of light and dark, yin and yang, good and evil… you get the idea.
