Equal Night
Equal Night is a giant circular blanket using shaped using modified Pi Shawl shaping techniques. It’s big and it’s lacy and it knits up incredibly quickly on 15mm knitting needles.
Finally spring equinox is here! One thing I love about the etymology of the world Equinox is that it comes from the Latin words “aequus,” which means “equal,” and “nox,” which means night. Which is lovely and descriptive for March 20th/21st because we’ve got pretty much exactly equal amounts of night and day (and I have been looking for more sunshine all winter!).
Welcome Spring! Welcome Equal Night.
Yarn:
3 cones of Prairie Sea Fusion in colourway 001 or 899 yards (822 metres) of Bulky weight yarn.
Needles:
A set of 15mm (19 US) needles in whichever method you prefer to work a small circumferenced project in the round (this may be using double pointed needles or magic loop, or some fancy new method I am unaware of. Whatever your preference is.)
Another set of 15mm (19 US) circular needles in at least a 24” (60cm) cord to work in the round.
Or whatever size needles it takes you to get gauge.
You may want to use a longer cord as the blanket progresses to see your project more clearly, but that’s optional.
Notions:
1 very large stitch marker.
Whichever tools you like to use for blocking your lace.
Gauge:
Because the gauge for lace and garter varied slightly I am going to put both here for you. Gauge isn’t essential for this pattern, so getting a similar but not exact gauge is a-okay.
5 stitches and 9 rows = 4” (10cm) square knit in the round in lace pattern and blocked.
6 stitches and 10 rows = 4” (10cm) square knit in the round in garter stitch and blocked.
Size:
78” (198cm) diameter.
