To make a long story short: this hat is the answer to a very specific request and, at the same time, a knitted way to dispel a legend - my omen to see the rain falling down inside the Pantheon (full story inside!).

A fitted and very elastic beanie, textured by ribs resembling the wonderful coffered dome, it is worked in the round and seamless.

Pattern provides written instructions as well as charts and schematics.

Gauge

Specific instructions are given to knit a reliable swatch back and forth in pattern stitch.

Needle size

2.0 mm / US 0 or 2.5 mm / US 1½ according to the chosen size and yarn.

Sizes available

Finished brim circumference: 45.5 cm / 18” (49 cm / 19” ½)
To fit size S/M = 50-54 cm / 19” 1/2 - 21” ¼ - (M/L = 54-58 cm / 21” ¼ - 22” ¾).

Due to its inherent geometry the hat can be sizeable with the same construction just altering the yarn weight: sock yarn (sample in dark grey: Campolmi Roberto Filati Baby) for adult Small/Medium and heavy fingering yarn (sample in light grey: The Uncommon Thread Lush Twist) for adult Medium/Large.
For other sizes instructions are given to get a proper brim dimension.

Pattern released on April 21st - Dies Natalis (the anniversary of the foundation of Rome) and the day when the sun, entering through the Oculus, lights up at noon the doorway of the Pantheon which also acts as a giant sundial.

06/08/2014: under a shower of fluttering rose petals on Pentecost Sunday - a laical baptism.
