Because of its unusual construction, this top-down cardigan has an asymmetrical shape that is rather figure flattering, shorter in the front and longer in the back! Worked in fingering weight yarn at a looser gauge, the cardi has a wonderfully drapey fabric. Because of its top-down construction, it can be tried on and easily customized during the knitting.

When I designed this cardi, I also designed the child sized version: Mini-Landing Cardi, with the purchase of the adult size pattern, you will receive the child sized pattern for FREE. :) The child size pattern is also available separately.

Why the name Emergency Landing?
When I was knitting the prototype cardi for this pattern, I was on a commercial cross-country 5-hour flight. Shortly after take off, the crew realized that somebody had not closed the front airplane door properly! As a result, we had to gingerly hover around for 2 hours to burn off some fuel and then had to prepare and make an emergency landing, while holding onto anything precious (i.e. children) and in my case, my yarn and knitting. Obviously, all ended well - since I am here to publish the pattern… :)
