Elf-burgh
The cutest little bonnet for your little (or not so little) elf! The multi-gauge Elf-burgh bonnet pattern can be knit in fingering to aran weight yarns and includes eight sizes from newborn to adult xl.
Matching with baby isn’t required, but it’s definitely an option! Cast-on right away, there’s absolutely no swatching required. If you haven’t knit a swatchless project before, you’ll love how it works. Simply start knitting, measure your gauge after the first few rounds then follow the numbers for your personal gauge and desired size.
Just like the popular Musselburgh Hat the Elf-burgh bonnet is knit from the tip of one crown to the other as a long tube. When you’re done simply turn one layer inside the other to create the cosy, double layered bonnet that perfectly hugs the head. Knit each side in different colours and you have two hats in one, it’s fully reversible with a perfectly clean finish on both sides. The cleverly shaped pointed crown and earflaps are worked entirely with simple increases and decreases. Stripes and self-striping yarn work particularly well, highlighting the chevron shaping on the earflaps.
Yarn
Fingering to Aran weight yarn. Choose a yarn with some elasticity - wool or wool blends are ideal.
Gauge
Swatching is not neccesary for this pattern. Start the pattern and measure you gauge once you have enough fabric. This pattern includes multiple gauges, so that you can use the gauge you get with your chosen yarn
Needles
Dpns or circulars for your preferred method of working small circumferences in the round. Using one size smaller than the suggested needle size for your yarn should be a good starting point.
