Elaine's Plaid Shorty Socks
This shorty ankle sock design uses stranded knitting to create a rotated plaid design. Its simple construction makes it a good project for those looking to create a stranded sock with minimal floats to catch. It’s a great project for trying Elaine’s Happy Heel construction!
- Twisted ribbing at the top is folded down to create a short, tidy, stretchy ribbing
- Simple “Elaine’s Happy Heel”
- Classic wedge toe
Approximate Finished sizes - Ladies Small (Medium, Large)
- Ladies Small: Measures about 9 ½ ” from the back edge of the heel to the tip of the toe; circumference of sock is about 8”.
- Ladies Medium: Measures about 10 ” from that back edge of the heel to the tip of the toe; circumference of sock is about 9”.
- Ladies Large: Measures about 10 ½ ” from the back edge of the heel to the tip of the toe; circumference of sock is about 9”.
Yarn amounts:
- Size Small: 1 skein of MC and 1 skein of CC.
- Size Medium: 1 skein* of MC and 1 skein of CC.
Note: Size Medium uses almost exactly 1 full skein (50 g) of Stroll per pair. Suggestions are provided for how to work the socks if you’re concerned about having enough yarn.
- Size Large: 2 skeins of MC and 1 skein of CC
The Elaine’s Happy Heel is integrated into the body of the sock: once you start the rotated plaid design below the cuff, you stop the design….work the heel ….and go right back to the design for the foot. (No afterthought construction!)
Instructions are given for how to adjust the length of the socks.
