Brief Schematic:
This skirt is knitted from the waist down, beginning with a structured waistband worked flat. Short rows are used at the top and the bottom to maintain the chevron pattern. The rest of the skirt is knitted in the round.

Required Skills:

Short Rows (W&T method used here but any is fine)
kfb = knit into the same stitch front and back
dd = double decrease: slip 1, k2tog, psso.
sc = single crochet

Gauge:
6 stitches per inch. Needs to be tight to create a stiff fabric so would recommend DK or worsted weight yarn. Sample #1 was knitted with Sublime Yarns Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK.

Colours:
You can use as many colours as you wish, but three colours is optimal as the yarn can be carried up the inside of the skirt.

Notions:
4 stitch markers (2 of these are recommended to be removable)
1 Button
Elastic (optional, if you wanted to create an elasticated waist)

The science bit:
To form the A-Line shape, double decreases are every four rows on the left and right sides, whereas increases are worked every other row. Double decreases every other row would create a straight skirt, and may be considered after the the hip has been worked to create a pencil skirt version.

Each stripe is four rows, this could also be changed to less or more, but four is used here as the pattern is a four-row repeat. Different looks can be created by altering the width of the stripes, and they do not all have to be the same thickness.
