The pattern makes for a great travel or television watching project as you can knit the garter stitch shawl body quickly and easily, then wait to start the tiers of applied ruffles until you’re ready for some engaging lacework.

The Fibre Co. Road to China Light (65% Alpaca, 15% Silk, 10% Camel, 10% Cashmere; 145m {159yds}/50g)

3 skeins Main Colour (MC): Hematite (dark grey)
3 skeins Contrast Colour (CC): Grey Pearl (light grey)

Or 6x50g skeins of sport weight yarn. Sample used approximately:
146g (423m {463yds}) of MC and
139g (403m {441yds}) of CC.

Optional: substitute your CC for the same colour as your MC for a one-colour shawl, or use 2 different CCs to make a three-colour shawl. You need approximately 1 skein (48g/139m {152yds}) of CC for the first applied ruffle and approximately 2 skeins (91g/264m {289yds}) for the second, so it is easy to split the 3 total required skeins of CC to work each in a different colour if you wish.

Gauge is not crucial for this shawl, but may affect your final yardage requirements and measurements.

NOTE
–This shawl begins with a garter tab, worked using a provisional cast on, then stitches are increased down the sides of the shawl to create a crescent shape (top down construction). There is a 4-stitch garter selvedge along the top edge, and a stretchy bind off to complete the shawl body. Stitches are then picked up and knit along two separate and marked garter stitch ridges in the shawl body, and the applied ruffles are worked in a colour of your choosing.
