Eden Floor Cushion
This monster floor cushion as displayed on the CalKnits stand at Woolfest 2014 measures 32 inches square and 8 inches deep.
Inspired by my local river, the Eden, the floor cushion reflects the patterns and textures of the river and woodland surrounding it.
The front is worked in a freeform adaptation of Sand Cable stitch petering out into plain stocking stitch.
The side panel is knitted in one piece with a repeating travelling cable design. The bottom of the cushion is a randomised version of a twisted cable pattern over garter stitch.
All elements of the cushion are joined using applied i-cord, with a concealed zip fastening on the base.
You will need 15 x 100g balls of Chunky weight wool using New Lanark yarn (illustrated in “Pebble”)
7mm and 6mm needles; at least 30 cm long or use long circular needles working back and forth.
5mm needles, preferably double pointed or circular.
6mm cable needle
32 inch zip.
A cushion pad measuring 32” x 32” x 8” (alternatively adapt or make your own version - notes included).
Sewing up needle and matching sewing thread.
