Echo
Pretty and practical mitts with a contemporary colour scheme which use small amounts of two luxurious yarns.
Yarn ideas: you can use either a 4 ply (fingering) weight yarn and a laceweight yarn, or two (or more) contrasting 4 ply yarns. The mittens use very small amounts of yarn so why not use up your oddments with lots of different coloured stripes?
A pretty shell lace edging is worked immediately after the cast on, then the mitts are worked in broad stripes in yarns with similar colours, but very different textures.
Manos Del Uruguay Fino gives the mittens structure and is used at the edges, while soft and fluffy Rowan Kidsilk Haze makes a more delicate sheer fabric that still keeps your hands warm.
The top edge of the mittens feature a folded hem for cosiness, with an extra layer of snuggly Kidsilk Haze on the inside.
The stylish buttons are sewn on to a faux placket with a picot cast off, adding a modern twist which gives all the appearance of buttoned mittens but without the inconvenience of the buttons coming undone!
