This pattern includes a second PDF version that is formatted for knitters with low vision. It has black text, size 22 or larger text in a sans serif font, no italics, no columns, and fully-written directions. The chart is still included but is not needed to work the pattern. Many thanks to Gemma Thompson (gemmabelle here on Rav) and the Accessible Patterns group for their guidance in formatting patterns in a more accessible way.

Sea urchins belong to the Echinoidea class. They come in all sorts of sizes and colors, from big to small and green to purple, but one thing is true for them all: when they die, their spines fall off and leave behind a beautiful, nubbly shell. The texture of this hat reminds me of those urchin shells, so I have named it after sea urchins.

The Echinoidea Hat is knit from the brim up using a tubular cast on. At the crown, the cables decrease into a star shape. This hat is graded for three sizes but can easily be sized up or down by adding or removing one repeat of stitches.
