A little pocket pigeon with the colours of life sized real pigeons. Adapt to other birds by changing the colour to suit your chosen bird. If you use a thicker yarn and bigger hook you can, of course, make a bigger bird.

A quick and easy project using basic crochet techniques to increase and decrease to create shape for the body. My sample has tiny pin sized safety eyes but if you’re making your pigeon for a child, or don’t have safety eyes, please embroider the eyes.

You gauge will depend on your tension but so long as your crochet is tight enough so that you can’t see the stuffing when you fill your bird, gauge is not crucial. If your crochet is too open use a smaller hook.

You can get a couple birds from one tiny ball of Catona and use scraps/oddments for the neck colours.
