Every winter I find myself looking for an oversized sweater to wrap myself up in — this is how Earl was born. Long sleeves, overlapping fronts and a huge shawl collar. A sweater to live in.

Finished Sizes
31½ (33¾, 36, 38¼, 40½, 42¾,) (45¼, 47½, 49¾, 52)“ bust circumference with 6″ overlapping in front. Sweater shown measures 36”, modeled with 4″ ease.

Yarn
Malabrigo Worsted (100% merino; 210 yd /100 g 3½ oz): Pale Khaki 7 (7, 8, 8, 9, 9,) (9, 10, 10, 11) skeins. Appx 1315 (1410, 1500, 1595, 1690, 1785,) (1885, 1980, 2075, 2170) yds—exact yardage will vary!

Needles
Size 10 (6.0 mm) 29” circular (cir) and set of double pointed (dpns). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Markers (m); stitch holders; tapestry needle.

14 sts and 40 rows = 4” in Brioche Stitch

Notes
This cardigan is worked back and forth from the bottom up as follows: The back and fronts are cast on and worked up to the armholes. Then the front and back are split and worked separately through the shoulders. Shoulders are shaped with short rows, bound off and seamed together. The collar is worked along with the fronts, when the shoulders are joined the collar is continued to the back neck where it is bound off and seamed together. Sleeves are picked up, sleeve caps shaped with short rows and then the rest of the sleeve is worked in the round. Patch pockets are picked up from the cast on edge and seamed to the body.
