Eärendil
Eärendil, the biggest star of the Elves, shines the brightest white light upon you. A common tale in the world of Tolkien, and well known in movies, is that the light captured in a crystal holder can dispel the darkness. Even if you don’t like the stories of Tolkien, the story of Seaman Eärendil, who in the end becomes the largest star with the brightest light, is an amazing tale to discover. I have tried to capture that light, the star shapes, and the delicate art of the Elvish people in this doily.
General information about the pattern:
Yarn Requirements:
This pattern is made with TGWTH & AADE (aade long). For the smaller version, I used one cake of fingering-weight gradient yarn in the Hayfield colorway. The larger version is made with the fingering weight uni held double in the snowwhite colorway. This pattern does work for all types of yarn. In general, you will need approximately. 400 meters of yarn. For the version held double, you need two balls of 400 meters.
Crochet hook needed:
I recommend a 3.5mm crochet hook for the fingering-weight yarn and a 5.0mm hook for the yarn held double version
Size: The diameter of the finished piece will be 50 cm (20 inches) for the version made with fingering-weight yarn. The yarn held double ended up at 60cm/24 inches.
You can use a ring to crochet the doily into. First, make the pattern, then decide on the ring size needed.
-For this pattern, there is NO chart or video available due to the complexity of the pattern.
-On the photos in this pattern, I have drawn the use of stitches. I always draw the standard crochet stitch symbols for Dutch and English (US). If you don’t know a particular symbol, just look it up online. There are several lists of crochet stitch symbols.
- The pattern can be downloaded after purchase in a PDF file. You have access to all available languages, which are English (US terms) and Dutch.
