Dutch Shetland Leggies
The Dutch are better known for their Texel wool, so this wonderfully sheepy Dutch-raised Shetland that appears in wool shops in the fall is a special pleasure. Part of a new project in the Netherlands to encourage local sheepherders to keep their sheep’s wool for yarn, the local fleece is sent to Germany to be spun and returned to the Netherlands.
Some of these Fair Isle charts are taken from photographs I took on my trip to Shetland in the summer of 2013. In particular, the heart pattern was from a book behind glass in the Shetland Museum in Lerwick.
The legwarmers are one size, tapered to fit a nice muscular calf :)
