Dutch Flat
Gold rush style! Designed for the Sierra Nevada Yarn Crawl 2022, this deceptively simple one-skein bandana cowl is a nod to the fashion of my great-great-(great?) grandparents, who settled in the gold country town of Dutch Flat (Placer County, CA) in 1850.
The Dutch Flat cowl starts with a garter tab, with a center double increase that creates a diagonal fabric, just like many triangle shawls. Then the Woven Diagonal Herringbone stitch pattern is worked on a diagonal fabric, which makes the slipped stitches look like stripes. The cowl is then joined in the round, and the center increases create the bandana shape, ending with a simple 2x2 rib edge.
