Dulce - Scarf and Shawl
Dulce gives you a choice: a scarf or a shallow shawl, both worked from tip-to-tip, with the picot/faggot edging, the garter stitch body, and the 24-row version of the Portuguese lace edging (with re-arranged picots) all worked at the same time. The two versions are made with different rates of increase: the scarf, every 4 rows; the shallow shawl, every 3 rows.
Dulce is named after Dulce Pontes, a fadista who contributed to the revival of fado in the 1990s.
Note about gauge:
One repeat of the lace edging blocked should measure approximately 2.5 in/6.4 cm tall and 3 in/7.6 cm wide.
Because you do not have the option of changing needles between the body and the edging portions, it’s more important to make sure you are getting the right measurement over the lace edging, so this is why this measurement is given rather than a traditional gauge over garter stitch. Use a 3.5 mm needle OR WHICHEVER SIZE will allow you to produce a blocked lace edging to match the measurements given in the pattern.
It’s not essential to match the gauge given, but your gauge will affect the finished size and the amount of yarn you will use. Be sure to purchase extra yarn if you choose not to match gauge.
