Duchess MKAL 2021 Fall Edition
Welcome to another mystery shawl knit-a-long
(Duchess MKAL 2021 Fall Edition)
Length of the KAL: 100 Days (starting on September 13)
This year’s second Mystery Knit-along 2021 lasts 100 days which means we will have our gorgeous rectangular shawls done by the end of January. Now, I hoped to get this MKAL finished by Christmas, but I think we should not stress ourselves – we’ll get going and see how we’re doing. If at some point, we figure it’s easy, then we can always increase rows.
We will work over 197 stitches, and we will have 511 rows. Some days are more than 4 rows because I will combine easier rows into 1 day (otherwise we will be knitting this shawl until the next summer).
Like last time, new rows are meant to work on weekdays, and weekends are for catching up if needed (because life happens as we know).
The most convenient way to receive pattern instructions is with “Knitlet” (knitting newsletter) and the updates are sent every Friday for the upcoming week. I will also update the blog here and there will be daily updates on the Ravelry here.

The first clue will pop up in your inbox on September 10.
You will need:
3,5 mm needles for cast on and bind off
3 mm needles for the main knitting (I use 2.5 mm needles)
approx. 100 g of lace weight yarn (100 g / 1400 m) (If you feel like “Nupp” stitches will take a lot of yarn then maybe it’s best to get a bit more, to be safe)
There will be approximately 1747 Nupp stitches. As usual with my counting, I didn’t get one proper number, so if you’re using beads, buy extra
Abbreviations:
K, k – knit;
P, p – purl;
yo – yarn over;
ssk – slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time, pass them back onto the left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together;
k2tog – knit 2 stitches together as one;
sk2p – slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 2 stitches together, pass slipped stitch over the last “k2tog”;
N – nupp or bead (I’m doing the 7 loop nupp -> RS: (k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1) into 1 stitch; WS: purl those 7 stitches together;
5F5 – 5 from 5 -> knit front and back into 5 sts for 5 times;
6F6 – 6 from 6 -> knit front and back into 6 sts for 6 times;
