Dropleaf Wrap
This pattern is published in Twist & Knit: A Dozen Knitted Patterns for Handspun, Hand-dyed and One-of-a-kind Yarns.. The printed book (or printed book with digital add-on) can be purchased here. This pattern is also included in Twist & Knit Digital Collection #2.
Designed for versitility, this piece could be knit in ANY weight of yarn, in any quantity (size and yardage will vary).
The Plum Version is knit with 866 yards (2 skeins of 50 gm each) of Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine (50% Peruvian Wool/20% Superfine Alpaca/30% Nylon) in ‘Prune Mix’. 20 wpi
The Brown/Red Version is knit with 253 yards (about 4 ounces) of handspun 2-ply from Chameleon Colorworks BFL Top (100% Blue Faced Leicester wool) in ‘Briar Rose’. 11 wpi on 3.75 mm (US 5) needles to a gauge of 15 stitches and 16 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) in center pattern after blocking with a finished size of 7 inches (18 cm) wide, 60 inches (152 cm) long. Worked with 3 repeats for length.
The main leafy motif in this piece makes a great scalloped edge and is deceptively easy to work. When worked with an alpaca blend yarn (as in the wrap version), it drapes and swings in an alluring way reminiscent of diagonal pleats.
Whether scarf or wrap, this piece is knitted from one cast on short edge along the full length of the piece. To get the most out of the yardage for the scarf, you can replace the border stitches with garter edge stitches (3 on each side) as is done with the Red/Brown version.
