These mittens and the companion piece shrug which uses the same folded stitch detail were the very first items I designed for this book. They remind me of the landscape of drifted snow which we always have at some time each winter up on the Mendips. Even when there is no snow, the contour of the Mendips, once you are on the very top, is folded, spare, and mysterious.
