Pattern Description from Cast On, February-April 2010: “While working through Level 3 of the Master Hand Knitting Program, I was intrigued by the Double Brioche swatch which was not only fun to do but surprisingly very easy with its four-row repeat and no purl stitches! A vest is a great transitional garment for spring and fall and serves as a wonderful canvas to show off the dimensional look and soft, cushy feel of this stitch. I used a lightweight yarn to create a thick, warm vest that looks more complicated than it is.”

Materials:

• Debbie Bliss PRIMA (1.75oz/50g, 110yds/100m, 80% Bamboo, 20% Merino Wool): 8 (9, 11, 12) skeins #20 Apple Green
• Sizes 4 & 6 (3.5mm & 4mm) needles & size 4 (3.5mm) 16” (40cm) circular needle or size needed to obtain correct gauge
• Stitch markers
• Tapestry needle

Gauge: In Double Brioche Pat with larger needles, 18 sts & 48 rows = 4”/10 cm. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Notes:

• When counting stitches in the Double Brioche Stitch, count the yarnover plus the stitch with it as one stitch.
• This vest is constructed in two separate pieces, a back and a front, each starting with ribbing at the waist. The pieces are seamed together at the shoulder and sides, then stitches are picked up for ribbing at the V-neck and around the armholes.
• Double Brioches is also called Honeycomb Brioche and creates a very thick fabric. it is not reversible.
