Doolan (Mongolian - “warm”) Hat & Mittens feature a double layer of knitted fabric in combination with Stranded Colorwork body. Double Knitting technique is used to create the two layers of knitted fabric in the earflaps, brim and crown of the hat, as well as the cuffs, tops, and thumbs of the mittens. The air trapped between two layers of knitted fabric gives extra insulation and warmth, while still preserving the softness and drape of the Fingering weight yarn. Stranded Colorwork is knitted with 2 strands of each color to compensate for the gauge difference between Double Knitting and Stranded Colorwork. Decorative Latvian Braids frames geometric Colorwork pattern, inspired by traditional Mongolian motifs, and add a decorative detail.
