We wanted a hat with dots on but we couldn’t be bothered with fairisle or intarsia. We wanted something a bit more textured.

What to do?

We thought hard and came up with a different way of having dots on our hat. And added a pompom (as ever). It’s very cute. It’s easy. And there aren’t lots of ends to darn in.

We used our favourite yarn for the hat, John Arbon’s Knit by Numbers. We used another favourite, King Cole’s Merino Blend Chunky as a trim (it really doesn’t matter that this is chunky and the hat is DK, it works perfectly for a trim) and for the dots. Domino would be even cuter with different coloured dots on, so you really could use up fragments of leftover yarn. It’s quick to knit and decorate - what are you waiting for?

1(1) x 100g skein of Knit by Numbers, shown in KBN 055, cream.

1(1) x 50g ball of Merino Blend, shown in 921, red.

Finished size: 46(54.5)cm / 18(21½)” finished circumference at top of brim.

Tension: 22 sts and 31 rows to 10cm / 4” over st st in the round after steaming / blocking.
