Have you ever noticed how baffled non-knitters look when you say something like ‘I should have used k2tog instead of ssk, this seems to slant into the wrong direction’. It makes sense – but only to knitters. It appears ‘Knit’ is a language of its own. So, do you speak Knit?

The pattern is for a cowl knitted entirely in stranded knitting in the round, either sideways or from bottom to top. The cowl is started with a provisional cast on, the tube is then knitted to the desired length, at the end the live stitches are grafted to the stitches from the provisional cast on.

The pattern includes more than 50 chart with knitting related abbreviations, words and motifs. The pattern is meant to be a ‘make it unique’ pattern. The knitter can choose which motifs to work and in which order. In addition, at the end of the pattern is a chart with all letters and numbers for knitters to create their own abbreviations or words to use in their project. The pattern comes with an add-on file should you prefer to work this pattern as a scarf.

Please note that that the colourwork motifs are charted only and there are no written instructions for the motifs provided.

The cowl requires at least two yarns in contrasting colours, but it can be knitted with as many colours as desired.

Needles and Notions
2.75 mm / US size 2 DPNs or circular needle(s), for your preferred way to knit in the round
1 stitch marker, darning needle, a spare knitting needle of the same size for the grafting

Size and measurements
Cowl knitted sideways: Approximately 20.5 cm (8”) high and 77 cm (30.25”) circumference
Cowl knitted bottom to top: Approximately 21 cm (8.25”) high and 64.75 cm (25.5”) circumference

Please note: because of the number of charts the pattern is very long (15 pages). If you plan to print it, you might check in advance which pages you need/want to use for your project. The pattern comes with a second file, an add-on file in case you prefer to work the pattern as a scarf.
