I designed this toque as a fun addition to my Dissent series, patterns inspired by American Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I thought it would be great to have a hat pattern that could be used as a swatch for either the worsted or fingering weight sweater. I’ll admit that I had no plan, no thought, of Ruth Bader Ginsburg dying before its publication. Now that she’s gone, I feel like this pattern has an added weight of sadness to it. I had to stop for sobbing while re-writing this paragraph. But I also want to continue my celebration of her lifelong fight for justice and her intense and incredible accessorizing. This pattern is customizable, including instructions for beanie and slouchy versions, so make your perfect hat to (subtly) express your Dissent. Here’s to Justice Ginsburg. May her memory be a blessing.
