Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Spring 2009: “’Architectural ribbing flows smoothly from the waist into the deeply ribben hems of the Diminishing Rib Cardigan,’ says Andrea Pomerantz, ‘creating a structured A-line shape’ and austere, elegant lines that flatter. Three different ribbing patterns, combined with twisted stitches, set off the waist and sleeves.”

Finished Size: 32 (35¼, 39½, 43¾, 48)“ bust circumference; fronts will not meet in the middle (see Notes). Cardigan shown measures 35¼”, modeled with about 1” positive ease.

Yarn: Tahki Savoy (52% silk, 48% merino; 108 yd 99 m/50 g): #002 light taupe, 8 (9, 11, 12, 14) skeins.

Needles: Body and sleeves—size 8 (5 mm): 16” and 29” circulars (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); stitch holders; tapestry needle.

Additional Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4” in 1×1 rib; 24 sts and 26 rows = 4” in modified 3×1 rib, unstretched.

Notes:

• The yoke is worked in one piece from the neck edge down to the underarms, then divided for working the lower body and sleeves separately.
• This cardigan is designed to be worn with a small amount of ease (one to two inches larger than actual bust measurement) and with the fronts not overlapping in the middle. The front edges can be stretched slightly to meet and close with a decorative pin if desired.
• The slipped-stitch I-cord edging is worked along the front edges all the way from the top of the yoke to the bottom of the sweater.

Errata: On the body of the sweater, reverse the order of the last two rows for tubular BO set up to maintain the 1 x 1 rib alignment with the 3 x 1 section above.
