Named after the Roman goddess of the moon, Diana is a softly sparkling shawl that combines beads, lace and garter stitch. The garter stitch transitions are reminiscent of a traditional stitch sampler and allow the knitter to relax between beaded sections, while the lace weight yarn and dramatic use of beads keep the shawl light, airy and glamorous.

Diana is a three-quarter square shaped shawl, so it sits beautifully around the neck as a petite but dramatic piece of ‘neck jewellery’. It is worked from the top centre outwards, beginning with a garter stitch tab and increasing at each edge and on either side of two spine stitches.

Yarn: 400 m / 440 yds of lace weight yarn, shown in: Brooklyn Tweed Plains (100% wool; 400 m / 440 yds per 50g skein); Colour: Junco; 1 skein
Please note: As the shawl is designed to use almost an entire skein of yarn, it is very important to achieve accurate gauge. If in doubt, please purchase extra yardage.

Needles/hook: 3.25mm (US 3) needles (80 cm / 32” circulars recommended); 0.8mm or smaller crochet hook for beading

Notions: Approx. 1700 (approx 60g) size 8 (3mm) beads (Toho seed beads recommended); tapestry needle; two stitch markers (optional to mark spine stitches)

Gauge: 21 sts & 34 rows to 10 cm / 4” over stocking stitch after firm blocking

Pattern includes charts and written instructions; shawl can be worked using either. All beads are placed using a crochet hook.
