Diamond Vine
I reworked a 25-stitch, 12-row lace pattern in ca. 1902 Butterick’s Fancy and Practical Knitting, p. 19 from garter stitch to stockinette stitch to show the pattern better. The garter stitch version also appeared June 1896 in The Delineator. Most of the pattern work occurs on the purl rows. The photo above shows the swatch upside down from how it was knitted. You can use the orientation you prefer.
The swatch is 3 inches wide at gauge.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, p2tog, p3tog and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
44 yards of #10 crochet thread will make 10 inches of a 27-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
