From Never Knit Your Man a Sweater*:

Argyle is classic.  Around since the 1920s, it has been in and out of fashion, but now it’s most definitely in, so it’s a great idea to incorporate the pattern into socks.  That said, this pair takes both brain power and time, so under no circumstances should your boyfriend have the opportunity to throw these socks into the washer and dryer with the rest of his laundry.  If you want to knit these socks, consider protecting your investment by committing to care for them.

This pattern is based on on that was originally published by Bucilla Yarn in 1950 and is used by permission of Plaid Enterprises.  The patterned leg is knit back and forth and is seamed up the back.  The stitches are then joined and the foot and toe are worked in the round.
