Construction: Knit from the bottom up in the round to the underarms. The front is then separated from the back and knit flat and with ribbing. During the ribbing, short rows are used to slope the shoulders. A three-needle BO is then used to seam shoulders together; armhole sts are then picked up and knit in 2x2 ribbing for a vest-like finish.
Inspiration: I have always loved the Desert Dweller cowl design and dreamed of adding it to a vest. I was inspired by the rug dresses that adorned my fancy friends as we graduated from high school and college. If you had a weaver in your family and were lucky, you would have these dresses, which were essentially two rugs sewn together and belted with your fanciest concho belt, made for you. I wanted to make a shapeless piece that could fit so many different body types and something that can be added to by lengthening the arms or body or changing the ribbing.
