Delusion Rainbow
Everything looks grey and then a rainbow appears.
A rainbow has become the symbol of 2020 so it seemed perfect to try something new.
When you look at most illusions you only see narrow stripes from directly in front. The image appears when you look from the side. This one is the complete opposite. When you look from the side you only see a plain grey surface. Stand in front of it and you see a rainbow.
We made it with Stylecraft Special DK, in eight different colours. Maybe the violet and indigo should be brighter but we used what was available during lockdown. Using this particular yarn the rainbow never quite disappears. The yarn creates a halo on the brightest colours. A very smooth (e.g. cotton) yarn would prevent this from happening.
If using DK you will need about 300 metres of grey (background) colour and small amounts of the other colours, for one panel.
Delusion Rainbow Script is a companion piece. The two are exactly the same size so could be used to make the two sides of a cushion or for panels in an afghan. (See artist’s impression photo.)
