This hat was requested from a friend, he wanted a warm, colorwork hat with ear flaps. The hat begins with a ribbed brim, and then changes to a very simple slipped stitch pattern that is well-suited for even a beginner, but advanced knitters will find it a lot of fun as well.

Knitted in 3 colors of a worsted weight yarn, you can choose from 2 sizes and make it floppy or fitted – with or without the earflaps.

This is an advanced beginner/intermediate pattern. You need to be able to work a simple colorwork pattern, increase and decrease. For the ear flaps you need to be able to pick up stitches.

Mens: Kathmandu Aran (MC) – 85% merino/10% silk/5% cashmere: 104 yds/95 m per 1.76 oz/50 g; 1 ball each of MC & CC1 &
Tahki Torino (CC2) – 100% merino, 94 yds/86 m per 1.76 oz/50 g; 1 ball
~ OR approx 100 yds / 90 m for (MC), 70 yds / 65 m for (CC1) & 30 yds / 25 m for (CC2) of a worsted weight yarn

Womens: Tahki Torino (MC) – 100% merino, 94 yds / 86 m per 1.76 oz / 50 g (MC); 2 balls
Noro Kureyon (CC1) – 100% wool, 110 yds / 101 m per 1.76 oz /50 g; 1 ball &
Mirasol K’acha (CC2) – 60% merino/25% alpaca /15% silk, 98 yds / 90 m per 1.76 oz / 50 g; 1 skein ~ OR approx 135 yds / 120 m for (MC), 55 yds /

20 sts + 32 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch/Navajo Basket pattern on larger needles

Sizes US 5 & 7 / 3.75 & 4.5mm 16” circular and dpns (or you may use your preferred method for decreasing top of hat)

Pattern Notes
- Hat is worked from the bottom up in the round. The colorwork pattern is worked using only one color at a time. Optional ear flaps are added last, if desired.
