Dawnstar Blanket for George
This blanket pattern is based on octagonal motifs joined together with squares and half-squares. It is adjustable to your requirements, and the result can span the range from cradle to king size and everything in between.
The size of the octagon measures 20.5-21cm (8ins) from flat side to flat side using the yarn and hook size described above. However, if yours is bigger, go with it unless the completed octagon either curls, or is wavy, which means the tension isn’t working for you. If your octagon curls, go up a hook size; if it’s wavy, go down a hook size.
Because of this, I have not included yarn amounts because I just don’t know! I used less than two balls of each colour, and probably 5 balls of white for the 4x3 octagon-motif-sized sample.
I also have not included detailed instructions for the border. I used linen stitch for the sample, but I’m leaving the border up to you, so you can make it as simple or complicated as you desire. I do suggest at least a few rounds of sc or dc just to tidy up the edges.
