Inspiration

The shawl is inspired by Barkskins from Annie Proulx (The same book that also inspired the History of Trees shawl).

Get ready for a fun and interesting crochet experience: in four different sections, or ‘chapters’, I invite you to wander with me through the native american forests. Dense, dark forests with trees hundreds and hundreds of years old.

The first ripple stitch section is worked sideways (very fun to make!), before it continues with three easy – and very addictive – filet crochet sections. Which are all inspired by different tree shapes. As you can see, the color changes from light to dark, signifying the misty, dense, native North-American forests, just as the book describes.

Yarn, Hooks & Notions

The shawl is made using Scheepjes Metropolis* (75% merino, 25% nylon), 50g/200m, in four colors:

Color A 024 Cota (white) x 1 ball (33g/132m used)
Color B 019 Marseille (light blue) x 1 ball (29g/116m used)
Color C 018 Suwon (medium blue) x 2 balls (58g/232m used)
Color D 017 Multan (dark blue) x 2 balls (85g/340m used)

3.5mm hook
Darning needle and thread clippers.

About the pattern

• A written pattern in English US terms or Dutch

The shawl measures 158cm/63.2” x 65cm/26” after blocking.
