Dance of the tea leaves
Tea may be one of the most common products we consume. Tea has a deeper meaning in many cultures and involves different rituals and beliefs. Tea is made from many different leaves, herbs, and spices. Although many of us find comfort in the ready-to-go teabags out of the grocery store, there is a vast difference between freshly dried tea leaves and the granulated stuff that can be found in those tea bags. I crave freshly steamed Assam green tea leaves, which are dried after the first harvest period of the year. The tea leaves dance starts once these dried leaves enter hot water. They unfold their nerves and slowly dance on the water, also known as the agony of the leaf. It has captured the attention of poets, romantics, and tea lovers for centuries, and this new crochet pattern inspired me. Enjoy – with a cup of tea!
General information about the pattern:
Yarn Requirements: You will need two types of yarn for this pattern. Color A is one Scheepjes Whirl Fine Art. This yarn comes in cakes of 215-225 grams with a length of 460 meters. You will need approximately 420 meters of yarn, so you will have a few grams left of this cake when used. In the example shown, I used colorway 653 Fauvism.
For Color B, you will need four balls of Scheepjes Merino Soft, which weighs 50 grams and has a length of 105 meters. In the example shown, I used colorway 618 Wood. You will need approximately 360 meters of yarn.
Both yarn types are made of 50% Superwash Merino wool / 25% Micro / 25% acrylic.
Crochet hook needed: You will use a 4,0mm hook in this pattern.
Size: The diameters of the shown example will be 60 cm / 24 inches in width.
As you will work two colors of yarn in layers over each other in this pattern, a slightly smaller hook size is recommended than the one given on the yarn label. This will make your work tense and show fewer gaps where a different yarn color could peek through.
-In the pattern, you will primarily work with two colors, which will be changed at each Round. You can just put aside one color and pick up another. If you need to learn how to do this, you can look at my website for a good tutorial. Use this technique to reduce your ends by just a few to work away.
-For this pattern, NO chart or video is available.
After purchase, you receive a PDF file to download. This is available in Dutch and English (US terms). There is a print-friendly file and a file with step-by-step photos that can be downloaded in both languages.
