Dan the Plug’ole is a fun hat, with alternating sections of ribbing and reverse stocking stitch, separated by diagonally spiralling arms of eyelets, that gracefully work their way round the hat, meeting at a final nexus at the centre of the crown. The overall effect is one of movement and exuberance, and can be worn as a full-on slouchy hat, or more sleek and fitted, with an up-turned brim.

The name comes from the similarities between the spirals, and the whirling images of water disappearing down the plughole of your sink, whirling away into infinity. The spelling, is another story…

I made the original of this hat for Dan Jones, Mr Bakery Bear himself,
who had sent me what he considered to be the most revolting yarn he could find, a ball of bright turquoise/cyan acrylic. I actually really liked the colour! I thought it would be fun to use it to knit something for him to wear himself, and the shape of the hat, and his name combined into the title of this pattern!

Pattern is fully charted, but also contains full written instructions for those chartophobes out there. You know who you are!

Each round in the written instructions gives you any changes in the stitch count, so that you always know exactly where you are.
