Daenerys Shawl
A light and airy triangular shawl that features garter stitch and textured lace. It is designed to be a simple and fairly fast knit (there is only one purl stitch every second row) and the pattern is easy to memorise. It is designed for fingering (4ply) and lace weight (2ply) yarns but is adaptable to any yarn you like and will look lovely in both solid and variegated yarns.
The blue sample pictured is the long tail (asymmetrical) version of the shawl. Instructions are also provided for knitting a shorter tail (more symmetrical) version. Both versions are able to be knit from the same quantity of yarn and simply vary in the final length and depth of the shawl.
All instructions are written. Size is determined by which version of tail you do and is also adaptable by the number of stitches you increase to, and the thickness and amount of yarn you use. This shawl is designed to use the amount of yarn you have so weighing it before you begin will give best results.
Yarn
1 skein fingering weight yarn 100g (Sunflower from Fiberific which is 375m/410yd).
or
1 skein lace weight yarn 100g (for the blue sample pictured I used 100g of Pinwheel from Fiberific which is 679m/743yd in col. Iris)
Needles & Notions
Pair of 3.5mm (US 4) needles for lace weight yarn and 4mm (US 6) for fingering weight yarn. I like to use an 80cm circular needle set but straight are fine also.
Tension/Gauge
Not critical however the Pinwheel lace weight sample is 18 sts and 28 rows/10cm using 3.5mm (US 4) needles and the Sunflower fingering weight sample is 16 sts and 26 rows/10cm using 4mm (US 6) needles over lace pattern after blocking.
Finished Measurements
Long tail version (Pinwheel sample): approx 61cm deep x 260cm long (blocked).
Short tail version (Sunflower sample): approx. 75cm deep x 140cm long (blocked).
