The daddy-son hat is a simple ribbed unisex beanie with rolled brim in 5 sizes, seamless and fully reversible. Worked top-down in the round, it’s easily adjustable to any desired length.

Head circumference (cm): 38, (44, 49), ((56, 59))
Head circumference (inches): 15, (17, 19), ((22, 23))

Yarn: fingering weight, allow approximately:

  • grams: 25, (35, 50), ((60, 65))
  • metres: 100, (140, 200), ((230, 250))
  • yards: 110, (150, 210), ((260, 280)) Yarn used in the sample is Malabrigo Mechita (100g / 384 m / 420 yds), #033 Cereza colourway, 1 skein in total for both size 2 and 5

Gauge: 20 sts & 36 rows = 10cm/4” in main rib pattern worked flat, blocked.

Suggested needles: 2.75mm (US 2) circulars or DPNs for knitting in the round.

Supplies: Stitch marker, row counter, scissors, tape measure, tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Techniques used: Judy’s magic cast-on, brioche, left and right-leaning increases, knitting in the round, stretchy bind-off. All techniques are shown in accompanying video demos.

Construction notes: The beanie is worked seamlessly from the top down — cast on using Judy’s magic cast-on. The main rib pattern is worked with increases on both sides until the desired circumference is achieved. Beanie is worked in main rib pattern until it measures to the desired length.
