This pattern was submitted to Knitty for the Winter 2007 edition and was gently declined. In the event that I’m not the only person who might want an apron with cupcake pockets (or without them! They’re optional), I wanted to share my pattern here. Enjoy!

From Pattern:

Inspired by retro-style skirt aprons, I decided to combine my two favorite obsessions: knitting and cupcakes. With skirt aprons, knitting and cupcakes each making a strong (not to mention sexy) comeback, this would be the perfect apron to wear while you unleash your inner domestic goddess in the kitchen this holiday season. Make it for yourself or as a gift for your favorite cupcake connoisseur.

This apron is knit in 100% acrylic yarn instead of cotton to keep it both washable and from getting too heavy. Superwash wool would be an appropriate substitute, although may be rather warm to wear in a hot kitchen.

Edited to add:
When choosing a yarn for this project, take into consideration your cooking and baking habits and environments. For example, if you use a gas or open flame heat source for cooking, you may want to use fire-retardant wool. For endevours where your apron won’t likely come in contact with direct application of heat (like cooking on an induction cook top, baking, or crafting) acrylic or an acrylic blend would be both economic and washable choices.
