The shape of the Crossnore Wrap is inspired by the woven wraps created at the Crossnore School in Western North Carolina. The wrap is a lace rectangle, folded and joined along one side, resulting in a twist in the front and more coverage in the back. The twist requires that the fabric be reversible, so I modified a lace pattern from Lisl Fanderl’s Bäuerliches Stricken 1. It may look complicated, but there are only 3 main lines of pattern, and one is ribbing. The shawl begins with a provisional cast-on, and later all provisional stitches are hidden in the join while completing the rectangle. The last few border stitches are grafted together for a seamless appearance. The natural waves of the edges evoke the mountains, frame the face elegantly in the front, and nest together at the join. To complete the wave, German Short Rows are worked at final edge; a photo tutorial is included.
