Crosscurrents occur in those places where two rivers run into each other and the water grows turbulent until the flow subsides into one harmonized direction. Often crosscurrents are marked by whirlpools and standing waves in the place where the two rivers clash. The Crosscurrents Cowl is inspired by this constant wrestle of changing directions, with the eyelet motif swirling across the surface of the cowl like a whirlpool.
This is an excellent layering piece to wear when the weather of two seasons flow into each other. Twist it snuggly around your neck in the cool of the morning, then let it fall loose as the day warms up. The very simple motif is easily memorized, but engaging enough to keep the knitter motivated. Perfect for showing off a special skein of yarn.
Materials Needed:
- @500-520 yards light fingering weight yarn
- 2.75mm (US 2) circular needle or size needed for gauge
- unique start/end of round stitch marker
- optional: 17-35 additional markers to mark repeats
Gauge: 30 stitches by 38 rows = 4”/10cm in slanting eyelet motif
Because the cowl is such a forgiving fit, exactly matching the gauge is not necessary. However, if your gauge is very different from the gauge indicated you will need to adjust either your yardage or the number of repeats worked.
