The bottle I used for this pattern is 4 1/2” x 5” at the widest point. It is an oval shape but has a rectangle bottom. You can usually find these bottles at places like Michaels, JoAnns or Hobby Lobby.

I used a worsted wt yarn but you can use any size yarn. Once you crochet around a bottle, you can do it around any shape or size bottle. I crocheted around vary large bottle with jute at one time. Wish I still had it. It was very cool. Whatever size shape bottle you have, whether it’s round or square, all you have to do is make a flat shape the same size as the bottom (circle, square). Then you start crocheting in the round working even with no increases, unless you come to a wider part. Just keep shaping the yarn and stitches around the bottle and you’ll need to decrease as you work up to the narrow neck. Lots of possibilities!
